Celebrating pride in Winchburgh
Winchburgh Community Growing Group pledges to keep Scotland beautiful by taking part in Beautiful Scotland this year
Administered by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful, a member of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Bloom Federation, Beautiful Scotland recognises the efforts of local authorities, communities and businesses which work tirelessly to improve their local cities, towns and villages.
Evidence shows communities benefit by coming together to improve their local environments. And Winchburgh Community Growing Group is seeking to do just that by joining hundreds of others to celebrate the 2021 theme: Climate and Nature Friendly. By planting seeds, organising awareness raising environmental campaigns, and engaging with the wider community, volunteers from << insert group name>> will work hard to improve the places they care for.
Juliette Camburn, Community Project Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “We’re delighted that Winchburgh Community Growing Group is taking part in Beautiful Scotland this year, and look forward to hearing the great things our team of volunteer judges will have to say after they visit.
“For more than half a century, local authorities, communities and businesses have been working together making a huge impact to ensure we can enjoy a clean and green environment benefiting us all.
“We are facing a climate and nature emergency, but our research has shown that in the last year over 40% of people have spent more time using outside space in their neighbourhoods, reconnecting with the environment and their communities. A good local environment can deliver a broad range of associated benefits in terms of physical
and mental health and wellbeing, community cohesion and civic pride, and the creation of economic opportunities”.
Winchburgh Community Growing Group are so excited to finally get to take part in this years entry after it being pushed back due to restrictions last year. We aim to bring a splash of colour and make some spaces beasutiful for the community and judges to enjoy - This year is just the beginning of bigger and better things to come in the following years. We are so happy to have the Winchburgh Wombles support us in keeping our community clean and tidy which further enhances our entry for year one.
The effort of all Beautiful Scotland entrants is supporting Keep Scotland Beautiful to tackle climate change and improve the places where we live and work.
