Willow Workshops

FREE - Willow building workshops

Deeside Willow will be providing the materials and teaching to get you building. Two 3 hour sessions are available to attend with the amazing team - More about them below...

"We are a growing family-run business working out of our smallholding in Royal Deeside, on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park. We fell in love with growing willow over a decade ago after experimenting with a small number of varieties. What we started to discover was the amazing versatility of willow, and the positive effects its cultivation and use can have on both people and planet - and we have continued to explore this through growing and making!

Now, growing over 60 varieties of willow, together we help others to be 'growers' and 'makers' through offerings of willow cuttings and kits, craft willow, willow foliage and catkins for floristry. When not busy in the willow patch, we can be found in the workshop making new baskets, sculptures and crafts for commissions or upcoming local producers' markets. But, where we enjoy being the most is bringing together and being with the community, sharing our skills and passion for willow."

When?

During the mid term break in February:

Weekend - Sunday 11th 1pm - 4pm

Weekday - Monday 12th 10am - 1pm

Where?

Auldcathie District Park Growing Area

Ground will be prepared so it's all about learning and building

Additional Info:

Sundays session will teach you the skills of how to learn and build willow arches and willow arbours

Mondays session will teach you the skills of how to learn and build fedges (cross between fence and hedge)

You are welcome to attend with the skills you've learned the rest of the week to help complete any structures.

Once all the structures are built the growing area will have 4 archways, 2 arbours, fedges and an igloo!

These builds will add zones to the growers area and create natural areas of living willow which can be harvested to build everything from bird feeders to furniture.
