On a Sunny afternoon in May we met Lou from Social Farms and Gardens and while sampling fresh food from planters Lou suggested trying to obtain a rich compost...that was made from our brown bin (garden) waste in Winchburgh - This seemed like a great idea but hard to achieve; or so we thought.

A few days later we engaged strong connections through West Lothian Council to Leavenseat Waste Management - Responsible for processing brown bin waste from Winchburgh and helping us to achieve zero waste.

"Winchburgh are thrilled to be part of this recycling vision - Committed to reducing plastic waste and always excited to have a local supply benefiting both environment and community."

"This rich quality of compost will ensure we can fill planters with an extremely high quality compost made locally.  The amount received (4 tonnes) will also be used for extended community growing projects and to top dress our Orchard fruit trees this summer, autumn and winter."

Morrison Construction have supported Winchburgh Community Growing Group previously in 2018 with man hole planters, soil, bulbs and paint/brushes which we used to paint the planters!

Morrison Construction help communities and are once again assisting Winchburgh by transporting a massive compost delivery from Lanark. 

This is fantastic news and another great example of how people and businesses pull together to deliver dreams!

We've previously transported compost by car/trailer and even had diggers deliver soil in the past!

Reducing carbon emissions is key to our vision and with a one off delivery which can be transported to fill or top up our growing is the way forward.

Winchburgh Community Growing Group really needed a solution to access high quality compost - Thanks to Levenseat and Morrison Construction for helping Winchburgh - Volunteers can now spread the village growing by the wheelbarrow.
